Cat Original Recipes
Essence is committed to the highest protein in the market. That’s why our recipes feature 85% protein, which is one of the highest available anywhere. This ensures your pets have healthy bodies, keen minds, and radiant spirits.
Grains
Cultivated grains have been around for only 10,000 years. For any creatures in the wild, the addition of grains to their diet is not very common. This is why Essence chooses to not include grains in our recipes, as they are just common filler.
Potato
High in carbohydrates, potatoes have been known to cause possible food sensitivities in some pets. Potatoes do not provide any significant nutritional benefits, but are often used as common filler. Essence does away with potatoes as they are an unwanted and unneeded source of empty calories.
Alfafa
Like soy, alfalfa sprouts contain estrogen, which is not an essential nutrient for dogs or cats. Some pets are able to eat it. However, many pets can experience indigestion and even vomiting. Essence excludes alfalfa from our recipes to ensure dogs and cats with sensitivities are not affected.
Peas
Peas are used a lot in pet food, mainly as binders. While they can have some benefits, too much isn’t very ideal either. Peas can cause the body to produce uric acid, which can end up in the kidneys. [This can cause problems with the kidneys.] Essence eliminates peas from all our recipes.
Flex Seed
Flaxseed can cause some discomfort in the digestive system, such as gas and bloating, abdominal pain, and other unpleasant side effects. Flaxseed is also rarely eaten by animals in the wild other than birds (due to birds having gizzards). Therefore, Essence does not use flaxseed in any of our recipes.
Sunflower Oil
Sunflower oil is high in omega-6 fatty acids. While it can be a beneficial nutrient, it must be mixed with omega-3’s in the correct ratio. We aim to promote a balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids to reduce the possibilities of potential inflammation in the cells.
